What you'll be able to do

  • Differentiate security assessment, clinical triage and the medical screening examination, and identify the clinical decisions that security personnel never make.
  • Explain in plain language the screening, stabilizing treatment and appropriate transfer obligations of applicable hospitals, and recognize when a person's request for emergency evaluation is present anywhere on hospital property.
  • Explain the security role in hospital Physical Environment (PE), formerly environment of care (EC), safety, including responsibilities, reporting channels, cross-department coordination and limits of authority.
  • Identify and classify environmental hazards and security vulnerabilities, and state immediate protective actions within security authority.

Curriculum

  • Step 1 · HSP-101EMTALA-Aware Hospital Security Response
    8 h · 7 modules

HSP-101 prepares hospital security officers, dispatchers, supervisors and safety personnel to protect patients, visitors and staff while supporting timely access to emergency care. Learners study the security role and its limits, core EMTALA concepts at a non-clinical level, the arrival response sequence, de-escalation, refusals and departures, police encounters, and objective documentation. The course emphasizes that security staff observe, protect, communicate and escalate, but never perform clinical triage, medical screening, stability determinations, clinical holds, or discharge and transfer decisions. Content uses Physical Environment (PE), formerly environment of care (EC), terminology, and legacy EC and LS document references remain familiar to many staff. All cases are synthetic. Matcom University institutional training; proposed institutional training hours, not externally approved continuing-education credit. This is not EMTALA certification, Joint Commission certification, professional licensure or proof of hospital accreditation. Hospital clinical, compliance and safety leadership must review content and map local policy and licensed standards through an authorized administrator before activation for staff.

  • Step 2 · HSP-102Hospital Environment-of-Care and Physical Environment Documentation
    8 h · 7 modules · after HSP-101

HSP-102 prepares hospital security and protective services personnel to recognize physical environment hazards, document rounds, report deficiencies, track corrective action to verified closure, and record emergency exercise after-action findings. Learners use Physical Environment (PE), formerly environment of care (EC), terminology while recognizing that legacy EC and Life Safety (LS) references remain familiar. The course supports observation and reporting; it does not replace technical inspection, clinical environmental assessment, or the judgment of qualified facilities, infection prevention, nursing or safety professionals. Security staff never perform clinical triage, medical screening, stability determinations, clinical holds, discharge or transfer decisions [Training-platform rule]. Inspection schedules, drill frequencies and risk rankings must be configured from verified requirements and approved hospital policy [Hospital policy — configure locally]. This is Matcom University institutional training with proposed institutional training hours, not externally approved continuing-education credit. It is not EMTALA certification, Joint Commission certification, professional licensure or proof of hospital accreditation, and it requires hospital clinical, compliance and safety leadership review before activation for staff [Training-platform rule].
